Final Fantasy the Spirits within Final Fantasy, the Spirits Within is the first CGI movie based on the Final fantasy video game series. The Spirits Within is mirrored on the concept of the first final fantasy games that embodied a pre-apocalyptic world caused by an invasion of different life-forms.
Surprisingly, the movie did not portray some of the key features that made Final fantasy so popular. The movie ventured into strange territory by employing a more Hollywood perspective in writing the script for this movie rather than a more Japanese portrayal. This apparent shift in the movie’s script was disappointing. Perhaps this was an attempt to attract another market to the Final Fantasy series. Whatever the case, the movie did deliver exquisitely. Apart from the shift in theme, The Spirits within was a brilliant CGI masterpiece. The voice dialogue and the CGI interface was so apparent and accurate to actual body movements that it was seemingly creepy to see CGI portray humans perfectly during the time this movie was released.
When I watch movies like these, I am more than obliged to check in my brain before I enter the theater and to simply enjoy the fiction, the graphics, and the sound. It is important not to let your biases prejudice your movie experience and to my experience, The Spirits Within delivered beautifully. The mixture of science, myth, drama, and action was very tasteful and not at all over the top. The only problem is, being a final fantasy fan it was an utter disappointment to not see the game’s key feature which is the Japanese anime theme of battle, powers, strength, magic, and summoning mythical creatures. It is a sad fact that this is the reason final fantasy fans wanted to watch The Spirits Within; we were expecting themes that embodied Final fantasy one up to Final fantasy eight, sadly this was not the case.
This was a movie released ahead of its time; people were not yet ready to appreciate its beauty. But now, with the advent of 3D movies and CGI dramas like Avatar and Clash of the Titans, Final Fantasy the Spirits within is surely to be remembered. Whether you are a fan or a newcomer to the series, the Spirits Within is definitely a must watch. This marked a cornerstone in the development of CGI technology and anyone can truly appreciate the beauty of the work that was put into the creation of this movie.
